Exciting and happy news! I am still trying to gather as much info as I can, but did not want to delay this. Apparently, Lt. Choi was suppose to speak at a conference this weekend. He was a no show. The reason given was he was called back to duty. He spent the weekend back in training with his unit. As many know Lt. Choi was dismissed from the Army under Don't Ask Don't Tell.
Jeff Sheng spoke with Choi and had this to say, "Apparently, Lt. Choi's commander has always been in full support of him, and even after Lt. Choi came out on The Rachel Maddow Show, his commander did not press for his discharge. The military did eventually serve Lt. Choi a discharge notification – essentially firing him from his job, but he was allowed to fight this at trial, and as it currently stands, the discharge has not been finalized. Given the current state of how DADT is in such flux, and also, in my opinion, the prominence and celebrity of Lt. Choi, his discharge might never be fully enforced."
This is great news for two reasons. One, Lt. Choi finally gets to do what he has been wanting to do, which is fighting for his country. Two this could help remove the ban on gays in the military. I just want to say congrats Lt. Choi!Photos: The Bilerico Project, No H8
How wonderful! That's positively brilliant news! I look forward to the repeal of DADT. Let's move past the irrational fears of our insecurities.
