First, let me state, that I did not watch the Oscars. I have my own personal reasons for it. But that doesn't mean I do not know what is going on with it. It was quite funny watching my twitter get slammed with tweets during the show. My favorite had to do with Jane Fonda commenting on the woman chewing gum in the audience. That just made me giggle. So why write a blog about something I did not watch...well apparently, there were things they did not show. The memorial shown during the show missed important things. Now, odd and crazy as it sounds, that is one of the part I want to see. It is sad to see all the talent that has been lost, but I think it is a great way to remember them. So I was somewhat annoyed when my twitter was filled with people talking about how Farrah Fawcett and Bea Arthur were not shown. Two incredible woman who have been a part of the industry for quite sometime. Though, I probably will get slammed for this, I really don't think it was appropriate for Michael Jackson to be included. Let's be honest about this, he is a great musician...but for him to be part of something meant to honor lost actors...when two huge names were not included is horrible.
Now as for the awards given. I liked Avatar it was a great film, and was visually stunning. I think it definitely deserved to win technical awards. I am also happy that it did not win best picture. Personally, I think that each award show is very specific about what they are honoring. Where Avatar did make lots of money and was enjoyable, I just do not feel it is Oscar Best Picture worthy. The Hurt Locker is the type of film that normally would win that category.
