Sean Hayes Publicly Acknowledges His Sexuality

Recently, there was an article that ran about Sean Hayes. It was a "what if" article describing what could have happened had Sean Hayes came out. Well, after all these years he finally has...and what does the world say to that...well duh! The first time I saw him act was in Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss. I absolutely loved that film, and I really liked how he portrayed Billy. Then Will & Grace came along. I will admit, I had a hard time watching it during its first season. Jack was so over the top. Now before you jump on me calling me self-hating gay...let me explain why. I had seen Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss so many times prior to Will & Grace that I got accustomed to how Hayes portrayed a gay man on film. So when he played a completely different type of gay character, it took me awhile to adjust. Which is a good thing, actors need to play separate characters differently, and not just rehash the same thing over and over again.

But to the point, when Will & Grace came out, most people either strongly suspected or knew for certain he was gay. But when asked the question, he would always side step it, with the...wants to keep his private life private as to not destroy the illusion of his characters. I for one am not a fan of the response. I agree celebrities have a right to a private life without having every little action picked apart. But something like that...you can acknowledge being gay without giving the public every little detail of your private life.

So where I am glad he has finally came out publicly...it is a shame he took so long to do it. He gave a very lengthy interview about it in The Advocate. He did mention at the end, he is with someone, but will not give anymore details than that. Also, he has a Broadway show opening soon with Kristen Chinoweth.
